Drawing440: Text Project

For this Project the objective was to create a drawing using text as the driving point for our finished piece of work. We were shown some examples or artists work, but one artist that stuck out to me was Ed Ruscha. We watched a video about him, and how he created art and I found him to be very interesting and a genius. One part of the video that stuck out in my mind was when he was creating text out of unconventional materials. He used materials like ketchup, chocolate, chewing tobacco, the list goes on. I liked this idea of creating text that was not just ink, or something that had been seen again and again. That's when I decided "I think I want to make my words out of smoke/ fire".Now that I had what material I wanted to use down, I had to come up with some text. Drawing Animation 1

The next assignment we were to complete in Advanced Drawing was a hand drawn animation. This was stark contrast from digital animation that I had just completed in my Digital Media course. It was cool to do these projects back to back to see how hand-made animations compare to ones done on the computer. I wanted to keep my drawing animation very simple, since it was my first attempt at having done one like this. I stuck to very basic shapes that were able to be easily recreated after erasing them. I used vine charcoal, to draw my animation, since it is forgiving and easy to erase. However, I found that although vine charcoal is easily erased, you can still see remnants of what you had previously drawn. For this reason, I started out with a base of vine charcoal over my whole page, that way I could just rub my drawing into the background making it easily disappear. Drawing 440: In Progress Ink Drawing

As this semester rolled around, I was optimistic that I would have achieve success as I had the past semester. However, although this semester is just starting to get into the swing of things, it's proving to be my hardest semester yet. My hardest class last semester undoubtedly was drawing 341. It was also my favorite class. This semester I am taking drawing 440, which is similar in a sense but a little more challenging. My favorite project of all time last semester was the ink pen drawing. This semester I am doing that assignment again, however, I am doing it twice the size of last time. As I said previously this is proving to be my hardest semester I've had to date, and I am really struggling with time management (even more so than normal, which I didn't know was possible). Which is why I am not as far along in this project as I should be.
