Drawing Animation 1

The next assignment we were to complete in Advanced Drawing was a hand drawn animation. This was stark contrast from digital animation that I had just completed in my Digital Media course. It was cool to do these projects back to back to see how hand-made animations compare to ones done on the computer. I wanted to keep my drawing animation very simple, since it was my first attempt at having done one like this. I stuck to very basic shapes that were able to be easily recreated after erasing them. I used vine charcoal, to draw my animation, since it is forgiving and easy to erase. However, I found that although vine charcoal is easily erased, you can still see remnants of what you had previously drawn. For this reason, I started out with a base of vine charcoal over my whole page, that way I could just rub my drawing into the background making it easily disappear. Ballpoint Pen Assignment

     For the first project of the semester, we were given the task to compose a drawing using only a ballpoint pen. The only two requirements were to create a dream like/ fantasy scene, and to use the entire pen. Sounds easy enough right? That's what I thought too. I didn't have much trouble coming up with my concept for the scene, as I tend to have some pretty weird dreams and thoughts on a daily basis. The first thing I did to tackle this project was to get some simple outlines in pencil, on my paper to use as guide lines for what I wanted to fill in with pen. One of my main challenges throughout this process was deciding how I wanted to go about filling in each individual piece of my composition. I wanted to use a lot of diverse patters, and mark making techniques, but also wanted everything to look coherent, and not like it was just mindlessly thrown on the page. Drawing 440: 100 Drawings

For this assignment we had to complete 100 small drawings. When I heard this announcement I all but had a heart attack, knowing how I struggled with completing the 50 small drawings last semester. For these small 100 drawings you could pretty much draw whatever you were interested in, as long as there was some method behind the madness that was being created. Some of my classmates chose a certain theme, some chose a specific material. I chose to stick with a nature theme. Over my time being an artist I have discovered that I really do not in anyway enjoy drawing humans, faces, bodies, etc. I do however love drawing/ painting landscapes, objects in nature, animals etc. So this is what I chose to do.
