50 Drawings

Image
My next challenge in advanced drawing was to create 50 small drawings. To do this we were to draw inspiration from a previous piece of artwork we had created. I chose to be inspired by my ballpoint pen piece. I looked at my ballpoint ben creation and wrote down 50 words that came to my mind while looking at it. Some of these words has to do with, feeling, some were descriptive, some were adjectives. I tried not to limit myself with this process and just wrote whatever came to mind. From these 50 words I drew further inspiration to create my 50 drawings. I did not simply want recreate each of my words into a drawing, but instead just drew what came to mind when looking at certain words. I wanted to keep a general theme for my 50 drawings as far as color palette using a variety of blues, blacks and whites. For material, I also drew inspiration from my ballpoint pen piece as far as wanting to use ink, however, I did not want to use the same kind of ink. So I chose to work closely wit

Exquisite Corpse Collaboration

For the second assignment of the semester, we were tasked with a collaboration project. We were given two large pieces of paper, with a few simple rules: stay out of the middle, work edge to edge, and create a creature of some sort. I had never done a collaborative piece before so this was new for me. For each piece of paper we had to separate it into four sections, each getting to work on every other section. This made collaborating a lot easier, and more time efficient.       I started first on the brown paper. It took me a while to get some ideas rolling in my head (per usual), but once I got the ball rolling, the project started coming natural. I started my first panel off by doing an evil joker/ jack in the box head. I was really trying to think of ways to work edge to edge in each of my panels, yet stay out of the middle. I started with the jack in the box head, because I wanted to be able to use the spring of the "Jack" in my third panel, as a way so work edge

Ballpoint Pen Assignment

For the first project of the semester, we were given the task to compose a drawing using only a ballpoint pen. The only two requirements were to create a dream like/ fantasy scene, and to use the entire pen. Sounds easy enough right? That's what I thought too. I didn't have much trouble coming up with my concept for the scene, as I tend to have some pretty weird dreams and thoughts on a daily basis. The first thing I did to tackle this project was to get some simple outlines in pencil, on my paper to use as guide lines for what I wanted to fill in with pen. One of my main challenges throughout this process was deciding how I wanted to go about filling in each individual piece of my composition. I wanted to use a lot of diverse patters, and mark making techniques, but also wanted everything to look coherent, and not like it was just mindlessly thrown on the page. I decided to tackle the tentacles of the Kraken first. I didn't go in with pencil before inking in my t
